Barclays has partnered with Legal & General to invest in the future of Cardiff’s growing economy. Barclays Eagle labs is a nationwide network of labs, building a platform to connect the UK’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to drive digital skills development to help grow the economy through innovation and change. Organisations and individuals are accelerating their personal and organisational growth through the partners, experts and mentors that are made readily available at what is the largest incubator in the UK.
Niki Haggerty-James, Eco-System Manager at Eagle Labs discusses the entrepreneurial community in Cardiff and states;

Dean Jenkins (Codez Academy)

incredible people from Rasberry Pi and Educate which have been instrumental in helping our business continue to grow and succeed”.
From 11th February, Dean has been working with EDUCATE - the pioneering accelerator programme for educational technology. Providing Codez Academy with the accreditation and approval to academically support the work Dean is doing.

Nathan Drave (DabApps)
“Having expanded our business into South Wales, we knew it was going to be a challenge acquiring new developers, but we’ve been able to secure three in the last six months, which was all facilitated by Eagle Labs”
Towards the end of 2018, Nathan held a networking and workshop morning at Eagle labs “does your business really need an app?’
“Using the Labs as an event space has been really important for us in growing our network with the surrounding businesses”
DabApps is becoming truly integrated within the local community and is also due to talk to students from Cardiff University to advise them on what it takes to make an app.

“We’ve had a lot of help by utilising the Eagle Labs partners – CodeBase, who have provided excellent advice, made a number of introductions and offered me the opportunity to speak at their AI event in Edinburgh.”
Toby speaks at AI Frenzy at Eagle Labs, recently presented at the launch of the Factory of the Future series with ESTnet, Barclays and Eagle Labs Cardiff on top of the amazing work Toby has achieved in forming AI Wales which now has over 500 members.

Alyson Macnamara (Md2 MediData)
Md2 is a digital tech company providing solutions for Primary Care Sector. Their first tool is due to launch soon, a tool that GPs can use that reduces their workload and saves them a lot of time.
“Being in Barclays Eagle labs has is great for a company like ours, to be able to work with a number of other tech companies also creating new technology with nimble ways of working.”
Alyson has made use of the surrounding expertise in the lab, having worked with both Toby and Nathan on a number of tasks.
“There’s a real community feel here, everyone just helps. Having Barclays here is incredibly useful of course. It’s a really funky environment. It’s the favourite I’ve worked so far.”
