The technology industry in Wales is going from strength to strength, from the increasing number of new-starts to the multinationals with their global reach.
The growth in business and innovation requires the growth of a skilled workforce to ensure its sustainability. The Welsh tech industry are calling out for trained professionals in areas of software development, robotics and cyber security to name just a few. There needs to be a focus on ensuring our future generation are equipped with the knowledge and the necessary skills required for the future of work, with an emphasis on technology, data and digital skills. As we adapt to a digital age, we don’t know what the exact nature of the jobs in the future will be, but what we do know is that regardless of the industry our future generation enter, its these skills that will be key to which-ever career they follow.
On the 10-11th October, Skills Cymru will again welcome thousands of young people through its doors, exposing them to the world of work and the many opportunities available to them. This annual event presents the perfect opportunity to showcase the fantastic careers available in the technology industry in Wales.
The technology industry in Wales employs circa 40,000 people in over 3,500 companies and is growing rapidly. To achieve and exceed this growth we need to work together as an industry to attract talented young people.
Therefore as representatives of the technology industry in Wales the ESTnetNG will be hosting the Interactive Technology Zone at this year’s Skills Cymru in the Motorpoint Arena, we will have a range of companies to present the exciting variations in the technology industry and ensure that the excitement and dynamism of our industry is reflected. We aim to inspire and motivate young people to take up STEM subjects in school and university and pursue a career in tech.
We’re pleased to announce the following members as our active participants representing the tech industry;
We will be providing our young audience with a chance to see demonstrations and take part in challenging and interactive activities with these companies to help them decide on a future career. If we’re going to inspire the next generation to take up a career in tech, we need to talk to them as early as we and allow them to pursue STEM based subjects which are the gateway to a future in tech.
We asked our members why they are attending Skills Cymru this year, and why this is important to them. You can find out through reading their blogs in the link below;
